As an atheist/agnostic, but with an interest in giving my children an introduction different cultures and beliefs, I wanted to introduce my kids to the Bible in a way that is respectful but not fawning, and I found this book to be perfect. On the one hand, many parts of the Bible stories are either omitted or glossed over, but on the other she often, in her asides, questions some of the contradictions found in the stories. In fact, her polite, conversational writing style in describing the events often creates a sharp contrast to the quite brutal and arbitrary events being described. God comes off not as an omnipotent and generous, but rather as muddled, capricious, vain, and vindictive. Makes an interesting conversation starter with the kids. I would love to see a sequel (or more), but I doubt it will happen -- probably would be too controversial.
Beautifully written and engaging stories for children.

This is the third time I am purchasing this delightful book . I have used it for the past two years at our vacation bible school and each time someone just "must have it". My last copy went to our minister to be added to the children's library. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to teach their children the stories of the Bible.
Miss Lea sounds like she was there!

I can just picture Miss Lea sitting with a circle of children, telling them the age old stories in plain talk, with age appropriate explanations of some of the more foreign customs from old testament time. She writes as if she were there, in an engaging, conversational way, and makes the stories come alive for my nine year old son. The stories are only from the Old Testament from Adam and Eve through Moses. I surely hope she continues through the New Testament. Wonderful book!
