I put a lot of thought into how many stars to give this book and there is no 4+, so I could be generous and say it could be a five star , especially if you are a big Miro fan. The photos are taken by accomplished photographer Francesco Catala` Roca and into each of the 10 chapters, opening by LLuis Peranyer, an expert on Miro. The first three chapters are devoted to Miro's significant periods of his life, associated with Barcelona,Paris and Montroig in Catalonia. The following chapters give you a view of his work with Public projects. From 1953 Catala~ - Roca , the photographer accompanied Miro, until he passed in 1983. Miro` lived to be 90. I have read that composers, artists, actors, and Picasso, who passed at 90,Michaelangelo, at 90, become their work and ...... their life as an artist, becomes one and the same, intertwinned,so much so that the art becomes who they are and the art lives for them. The art now becomes the caretaker of of the artist, so then an artist wakes up in the morning , breaths, eats, loves, and sleeps, his art. That is all done by the artist and not the individual. The quote is a thing of beauty, and this is projected in the latter photos of Miro`. In order to grasp what is being told to us in this book , you must know Miro`. In the beginning of this book are his drawings he did as a child, old family photos, Miro`s early work, which I am very partial to and it shows him working, painting. The 4th chapter is the break off, where he "goes radical" and you are front row, center to all his inventive works and you are allowed to see his growth. The pictures are full page , flush to the edge of the book and Miro` is the star. You are invited into his world and his decisions, it is a very intiment look at how he works.... and he is at ease in front of the camera because Catala-Roca has taken over 3,000 photos and they used 152 of the best. It is something I will go back to.... again and again because there is laughter, love, friendship, painting, art, contemplation, all full color, no skimping here. It is simply Miro and he has given you wondeful moments in his life. It is a winner folks.
