On September 9, 1964, the E-155P-1, an experimental fighter interceptor, took to the skies for the first time. After it completed many flights in the state test program, it became known as the 'MiG-25'. The MiG-25 Foxbat supersonic high-altitude twin-engine fighter interceptor was a third-generation jet fighter (and reconnaissance aircraft). It was one of the world's fastest aircraft during the Cold War. It was also a one-of-a-kind jet in many ways, evidenced by the vast number of world records it established, some of which have not yet been surpassed. The MiG-25 was a very 'Russian' aircraft. It was mainly built of heat-resistant steel and was extremely easy to maintain. From December 1965 to April 1970, the MiG-25 fighter-interceptor was subjected to state testing before being formally adopted by the fighter aircraft of the USSR Air Defense Forces in May 1972. The aircraft's fundamentally innovative design, unique attributes, and the array of reconnaissance equipment and weapons justified the extended testing time. The MiG-25 was also a renowned aircraft in Western culture, with films based on it, such as Foxbat, starring Henry Silva, and Firefox (based on the Foxbat), starring Clint Eastwood. It was most likely the first jet in aviation history to be immortalized by Hollywood. In essence, the MiG-25 was the Soviet Union's golden jet.
