A normal girl was living a normal life--until she wasn't. One day, she could see...everything. What's a girl to do when hideous monsters appear no matter which way she turns? And on top of that, nobody else can see them Obviously, there's only one thing that makes sense--ignore them. Kinda hard to put theory into practice, though, when the ghosts know she's watching...
Review summary:
You'll be dropped into the thick of it just like Miko, the main character. As long as you're not afraid of things that go bump in the night, the combination of cuteness and horrid specters, the slice of life situations, and deadpan humor will keep you craving the next chapter.

The beginning was a little jarring. It started in the middle of things, so I felt confused until about the third chapter. Nothing new was explained; I just got used to the creepy spirits abound in Miko's world, much like she was. While most spirits were grotesque and highly disturbing, there were also some very cute and sweet moments with lighter spirits, giving a nice balance.
This was most definitely a comedy with its deadpan humor and awkward situations, particularly with Miko's friend Hana. Which leads me to something that seemed a little odd. The first chapter, I felt, was trying a little too hard to have fan service. There was nothing inappropriate, just oddly angled panels and poses in the first chapter, then some locker room changing in the second. The changing felt more natural than the poses and such from the first chapter, so I wouldn't have thought about it normally. But the rest I have to say was relatively wholesome, given the monstrous ghosties hanging around every corner.
The spooks were really good! As a horror fan, I was pleased to see unique ghosts everywhere; not one misshapen haunt was reused. I really hope they will continue to be as unique in the future volumes. I really enjoyed the humor - Mieruko-Chan feels more comedy than horror to me - and the everyday situations that Miko had to face while dealing with her newfound ability, which thankfully for her wasn't all bad. Sometimes, even the seemingly worst kind of curse has a silver lining.
