A Great Treasure Chest

I love reading this book. I've picked-up many small tricks in Word and FrontPage. Mr. Cummings makes good use of humor in his text, which makes a dry subject easier to digest. All standard Office 2000 applications are covered and some useful macros can be found ready to type. My favorite is the ZoomToggle macro, which toggles the Zoom factor in a Word document with the previous one.I have only one reserve, the section about learning VBA. The 217-page section devoted to learning VBA in Office doesn't really attain the goal. Too bad there aren't many serious, real-life snippets of useful code ready to use. If you want to learn VBA, do not rely on this section. On the other hand, if you're not into programming Office, if you're comfortable with the basics and want to become a power user, you will find many, many useful tip and secrets for all the main Office applications you use specially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Nearly the perfect Office Book for Interm./Advandced Users

I personally liked this book a lot. The layout and the way how things are explained are just perfect. I myself gave Office courses in big companies, but was never bored reading this book and got really a lot of new ideas. The idea to provide short background information in abook why to do things in a certain way and not in an other is basically such a simple idea , but only this the author - in my opinion - knew ho to use it perfectly. The TOC and the Index of this book are also excellent.I didn`t rate this book with 5 stars, because I would expect a few more examples and creative solutions to a few common office tasks for the highest rate. For example I didn`t find anything about Dashboard usage or the Web-Folder use in Outlook 2000 in combination with tasks which have to be completed by anyone of a workgroup. But still its a very good book.I got this book and the "Using Office 2000" book by Woody Leonhard and use them as follows: First I look in the Office 2000 Sercets since it is nicer and easier to read, if I can`t find it here I try to find it in Using Office 2000.The perfect book would be to have this layout etc. and have some additional creative solutions e.g. from Using Office 2000 added. Maybe (Hopefully) one day both authors can work together on such a book.
