I bought I-VI as used. I read the first 2 years ago, and was surprised to see there were more. I got them all again, this time as used. I,III,V, and VI were in great shape. As I remember the story was creepy and very memorable. That is why I want to read it again---all of it.

What a wonderful, belated, surprise this 6 part series is! Stephen King gives credit to Michael McDowell's Blackwater books for inspiring his series "The Green Mile". What a pity McDowell is deceased, and can no longer dazzle us with more delightfully written, creepy, books. Be sure to begin with "The Flood" as it is the first in the series.

For my mother, any moment not spent reading was an irretrievable loss. This included the car, where as a child I had the pleasure of acting as a 1970s audiobook by reading aloud to her. Though her literature tastes were not those of a ten-year-old boy, sharing these moments and stories crafted me into the reader I am, and gave us a lifelong bond we keep 40 years later.
