A lot of books on Buddhism seem to stray from the early teachings. This one keeps firmly within the Theravada tradition. It is written in a non-emotional style which I far prefer to the simplistic and often wishy-washy writings of many American Buddhists. It clearly explains the advantages of developing friendliness but also shows how difficult it is to do this. It relates the core Buddhsit teaching of anatta(not-self) to metta. A very worthwhile book.
