Gold country in California in 1850. a time when ladies traded their bodies for a bed and men sold their souls for a bag of riches.
Angel only anticipates betrayal from men. She was forced into prostitution as a young girl and now lives off of her resentment. She despises males who take advantage of her and leave her feeling hollow and lifeless inside.
Then she meets Michael Hosea, a person who always attempts to understand the will of his father. Michael complies with God's command to wed Angel and to adore her without condition. He challenges Angel's every harsh expectation gradually, day by day, to the point where, in spite of her resistance, her frozen heart starts to thaw.
But her sudden softening brought with it tremendous feelings of inadequacy and anxiety.
Angel then flees. Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does-the One who will never let her go. She flees the chasing love of her husband and returns to the darkness, scared of the reality she can no longer deny.
