Maya's Divided World

Maya's parents are growing apart which leads to a divorce. Maya and her mother go through tough stages in their lives like when Maya ditches her favorite sport, tennis. Maya also ditches her friends to hang out with these heavy metal punks who are up to no good. Maya then blames her mother for the divorce and runs away from her feelings and her problems. Her mother and her deal with their problems together by hiring a shrink and by doing counseling. Maya refuses, but in the end counseling wasn't all that bad. Maya's mother and her make up for their mistakes and now have the patience for each other.

A book with charm and humor

Maya's Divided WorldThe plot of the story is about Maya and her parents getting divorced and the stages she goes through during the divorce. The setting is present day in Laguna, Mexico. She goes to school at Roosevelt High School. Her best friend is Juanita. At first Maya has perfect grades and a good friendship with everybody in her group of friends and then once the divorce happens she starts hanging out with the heavy metal group and starts liking this guy Shane. There on she starts sneaking out and lying to her mom. Once on a dare from Ruby (a girl in the heavy metal group) she got caught shoplifting. That's when her friend Juanita talks her into seeing Ms. Martinez "the shrink". After she sees Ms. Martinez for a while things get better for her and her mom. I liked the book because it had problems that occurred or can occur in an ordinary teenage girl's life. It was a very down to earth book and I enjoyed reading it very much. It had a lot of suspense in it that kept me reading. Gloria Velasquez is a very good writer.
