The narrator, Max, is an out of work musician, and bar manager currently in Tempe, AZ, where he finds a dead friend in a walk-in cooler he had no authority to open. To clear himself and find the killer, he goes on a wild ride with bar belles, drinking buddies, and Tequila roaring through the Arizona bar scene and a Mexican beach resort. His binging search eventually leads to Atlanta, GA and a reckoning with a crazed, pigeon loving suspect who may be hell bent on revenge after losing his job.
