I am a numerophile or a number enthusiast. It saddens me to see so many students dislike mathematics. They feel Math is not for them. As an educator I feel, Math is not taught in an interesting way. There is a lot of how and not why? Interest in a subject will develop if it is taught in an interesting multi-sensory way. Imagine making a five year old write a page of 1,1,1, 1, within the squares in the page. The child would rather play and so scribbles a few ones and rushes out. I would rather spend two periods of "Torch Light Tracking" teach the numbers 1 through 9 and ' 0 ' with visual and auditory input and write one page of 1 through 9 and " 0 " too. Well written and neat. I would give patterns in number tables and not insist on learning by rote. There are far too many ways to teach numbers and their operations in an interesting manner. Try out the methods in the book. YOU WILL FEEL - NUMBERS ARE REALLY COOL.
