The last defender of the kingdom of Great Britain

Mark Anthony should be named the funniest personal trainer in the history of UK. On a nice Sunday afternoon, while teen-sitting a boy and a girl, Mark embarked on his book project. Using a set of 3-pound dumbbell pair, and 5-pound bar, and a folding bench, Mark started his filming of his exercise poses in the backyard garden. He started by declaring that championship runs in his veins through his accomplished relatives. No kidding! In a black short, T-shirt, and back leather shoes without socks, Mark introduces his book in the humble manner of an English man (oops, I should say Great British) as the last personal trainer who have to adjust to clients who could not stick to a 3-session training week. Not only that, but he also claims that it is even better to train once a week since intensity, not frequency or volume, that matters. Intensity he claims will deliver! 3-pound dumbbells and 5-pound bar? Yah, that is real intensity, in the Royal sense. The seriousness of his approach to the technique of performing various exercises is quite admirable. He lets the boy and the girl do the Clean and Deadlift and Squat-Press jump with the "dangerously heavy 3-pound dumbbells". The two teens could not resist but laughing sarcastically on their dedicated personal trainer. You might notice that in the Clean, the elbows do not flip high enough or the arms do not erect as they should in the overhead press. But that is due to the weight of the dumbbells! On the nutrition part, Mark got the boy and the girl to hold an apple and a slice of water melon to show how good nutrition and fitness go hand in hand. After devouring the goodies, to his dismay, the two teens ran away from posing for stretching exercises. So, the poor loner posed in front of the camera for stretching moves. Then for the cardio, he took his shoes off and ran on the beach sand, bare footed, chasing after the runaway teens. Mark should have known that people, like animals, once fed they mind their own business. Once a week does not hurt, people should know better! Seriously, however, in all the gyms I attended in the last two decades, parking lots have to be doubled; equipments and training rooms tripled, and gyms have to open new locations to accommodate the high demand for work out. Moreover, many of the faces I recognize show up to training more than three days per week. Some have multiple memberships to various gyms. Some participate in gyms that open 24-hours. It is the kingdom that is dying, not the workout. However, the five stars go to the humor, the relentless adoration of physical education, and the product quality. Mohamed F. El-Hewie Author of Essentials of Weightlifting and Strength Training
