Love this new approach!

I just bought Making Babies after experiencing some secondary infertility. I read it cover to cover in 2 nights and I love it. I love that the advice recommends starting with healthy eating and exercise, it is so basic but makes so much sense. I also love the fertility types and was absolutely amazed at how well my "type" fit me. I have modified my diet and am taking the supplements that they have recommended and hopefully, over the next few months I will be successful! I really recommend this book because it is very informative and offers some alternative ways to increase your fertility other than Clomid. Also, I wrote the authors to ask a specific question and got an answer in just a couple of days!

A must have for couples trying to conceive

I have read many many books out there when I started the infertility roller coaster. I was very disappointed in what choices where available. After reading Making Babies, I found the book be so informative and useful about conceiving naturally and what steps to take if you need more help. It has a wonderful questionnaire to identify "what type you are" and what lifestyle steps to take, such as supplements, or food changes. The suggestions are very reasonable and worthwhile if you are trying to conceive. The book gives real examples from patients going through infertility. The book is a wealth of knowledge for anyone preparing to start a family or for couples who are in the infertility process already. The book is an easy read ( It took me three nights before bed to read it). I highly recommend this book and have already purchased it for my friend.

Why I LOVE this book

This is a great resource for any wannabe parents. Among other things it has a long list of suggestions on everything from when to have intercourse, to what foods to eat, even some interesting points on what supplements to take. It also confirms something really important I learned at a workshop given by Julia Indichova, which is that going for the big guns of IVF, before we really understand what's going on with us, can do more harm than good. (Julia's book The Fertile Female is another great book I highly recommend) I also like the idea of a three month plan. The authors are suggesting that you should see some real changes and results in three months and if you don't it's time to move on. I spent years doing acupuncture and a year and a half doing medical treatment and stayed with it out of desperation not because I was seeing positive changes. It was not until I stopped all of that and really started to do my own reading and research that I started getting on the right track that led to our beautiful, healthy, conceived the old fashioned way baby girl. Now we are hoping for baby number two.

Anyone considering fertility treatment, please read this book!

I am honored to be the first to review this essential book for anyone interested in the pro's and con's of natural and assisted fertility treatment. Doctors David and Blakeway do a fabulous job in explaining pertinent, yet mostly overlooked ways to rev up fertility before embarking on assisted reproductive techniques such as IVF and IUI. We (as acupuncturists specializing in infertility) are often seeing patients too late in the game, and hope this book encourages couples struggling with infertility to give natural treatments such as acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine a try. My only complaint was there was no listing in the resource guide for the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine, which is the certifying body for acupuncturists specializing in infertility (www.aborm.org). In short, I will definitely recommend this book to my patients as a navigation guide to more effective infertility treatment, whether embarking on a medicated or natural path (or both).
