MAKE ME FAMOUS by Maud Ventura
If you’ve ever been curious about what it would be like to live inside an entitled narcissist’s headspace, this book is for you.
At fifteen, French-American Cléo Louvent believes she was born to be a star. Not just any star but a *superstar*! Her life’s goal is to make it big no matter who or what gets in her way.
Cléo is deeply delulu in the most exasperating yet oddly hilarious way. And it’s not like Cléo isn’t talented. She is! She plays guitar, the piano, she’s a singer and songwriter. Honestly, her ambition and confidence is admirable (to an extent).
However, as much as Cléo hypes herself up, any mistake made by her “entourage” or criticism causes her to lash out. She collapses into despair, self harm and self doubt. I was fascinated by Cléo’s deranged and sociopathic behavior. Nothing was off limits or too much for her.
I have to say, Ventura really knows how to write a good character study. The ending and epilogue was worth the ride. This is a great follow up to Ventura’s first novel, My Husband, which I also enjoyed. As always, January LaVoy’s narration is perfection. Highly recommend listening to this one.
