This is a superb novel, partly a story of secret Cold War operations in Europe and partly a story of the costs that secrecy have on personal relationships. Brauer served as US Air Force officer in Belgium and writes about spy missions and nuclear weapons security operations with skill and professionalism. He is also a talented writer and tells a compelling and sad story of the inevitable costs that secrecy has on his protagonist's relationship with his Dutch girlfriend. How much of the story is true? Brauer keeps his secrets and leaves the answer for the reader to determine.I recommend this book highly. It is a unique contribution to our understanding of the Cold War and its effect on lives of all of us .
