Try this for a little Aloha spirit

I love reading books that have a strong sense of place - especially when that place is somewhere I know well - in this case, Honolulu, Hawaii. And Mahu not only get the place right, but everything else as well, including the introduction of a most original and charming main character: surfer guy cop Kimo. Congratulations, Neil; a job well done and I join the ranks of fans waiting for more.

Fantastic detective thriller with pyschological twists!

This is a great read. You can't put it down once you start. the detective is so interesting and so different from any other detective you've ever read. It is really original, well-written, and unique. A great book to discover.

Mahu

Neil S Plakcy has created a differenct character to gay mystery fiction writing. Kimo Kanapa a good looking mixed race surfer living in Honolulu. Kimo the protagaonist is a young police detective with the Honolulu Police Department. Being gay has created some internal conflicts in the police force for Kimo. But his love of being a cop overrides these conflicts. Kimo becomes involved in the investigation of the murder a man outside a gay establishment problems arise when he leaves the scene of the crime and later reports the murder by phone. Plackcy writing style has captured the reader all thru the story his sense of place is very vivid he must have done some extensive researh on Hawaii or even spend time in Hawaii. Hopefully we will see future books with the character KIMO.

Mahu: a mystery for gays and heteros. Y'all

Circumstances of a murder force a gay detective to come out. Set in a very realistic present day Hawaii, Mahu is a page-turning, very sexy mystery. But it's more: a moving story of one man's complete life and struggles with family, lovers, friends, and colleagues. Plakcy's dialogue is fast and funny, always pitch-perfect.
