Brava!

This is a great love story. I loved the plot and the sweet love story between Nicole and Xavier. I could not put this book down; I read the entire story in 4 hours. This story had forgiveness, fear, love and a steaming love scene that made the romance believable. The secondary characters were strong but did not overshadow the main characters. This is the second book that I've read by this author and I am pleased and a new fan.

Magnolia Sunset

Can true love mend two broken hearts? Many men have admired Nicole Edwards' beauty of Vietnamese and African-American descent. However, she closely guards her heart because she knows first-hand what its like to be rejected time after time. Nicole was abandoned by her parents as an infant, which forced her into the foster care system until adulthood. In her early childhood, Nicole was ridiculed by her peers because she lived in foster homes, which in turn caused her to develop a hard protective shield. And, then in college, the man who proclaimed to love her and wanted to marry her turned out to be a cowardly guy; he refused to fight for her after his family forbade the marriage between them because of her parentless background. The very selective few that Nicole has allowed in her inner circle are her very best friend, Gina and Gina's immediate family. Major Xavier Ramon's dictum towards love and marriage is once bitten, twice shy. After escaping the collapse of his first and only marriage, Xavier refuses to allow another woman close enough to crush his heart. That was until he met the lovely Nicole Edwards. Nicole and Xavier have merged into each other lives because of their respective best friends' upcoming marriage. Xavier was immediately turned on by Nicole's alluring charm, yet he was determined to sustain guard over his heart by not falling in love. Unable to deny the emerging attraction between them, Xavier and Nicole agreed to have a temporary non-commitment adult-type relationship. Will Xavier and Nicole be able to maintain their control over their current no-strings attached relationship? Are they both willing to let go of their hurtful pasts in order to have a happily ever after future or is all hope lost? Joy, sorrow, pain, desire, trust, envy, romance and fury are a few words I use to describe Giselle Carmichael's debut novel, Magnolia Sunset. Readers, I would suggest keeping a few tissues handy because you will need them, especially when Nicole confronts a perceived wrongdoer from her past. Nicole is a believable character who has had to overcome so many obstacles; no wonder she had a major trust issue. On the flip side, Xavier is a very strong-willed, supportive, determined, and a likeable hero. Although, Nicole tried to fight it, the desire quickly ignited between them and it wasn't before long she was caught up in the rapture of Xavier. This novel's main focus was building a trusting relationship between deeply heartbroken characters. While, there was countless sensational foreplay between Nicole and Xavier, their sexual encounters were few and far between. However, it didn't take away from the story because when this couple actually came together is passionately explosive. I found Magnolia Sunset to be a true delight.
