Highly recommended

This book is a winner in every way. It is rare for any book to have excellent writing, a wonderful plot, and characters you care about, but Lullaby has it all. Jessica's pain is almost palpable after her infant son is kidnapped during a routine outing in London. The book moves at a break-neck pace as she and the local police race to find the child before it is too late.

Satisfying Psychological Suspense

Claire Seeber's debut (released previously in the UK) is a great page turning suspense read. A true one-sitting read! One minute Jess was enjoying a day at a gallery with her husband and son, the next minute they'd disappeared. At first she believes that they may have returned home without her, but that's not the case. Frantic, Jess calls everyone she can think of, but no one has seen them. Finally, the police report that they've found her husband -- beaten in an alley. Their son is still missing. As Jess fights to discover what's happened to her son, she finds that everyone around her seems to be telling lies and hiding secrets. But who would have taken her son and will she find him before it's too late? On par with some of the best of the genre: Ruth Rendell and Minette Walters.

A New Brit Enters the Arena

I lucked onto a copy of Claire Seeber's "Lullaby" in the tourist area (used bookstore) of Orlando. I figured someone brought it over on the plane and traded it in as it was only listed available in the UK. Serendipity! Jessica is the happy mother of 4 month old Louis, with a distant husband/father. They go for an outing, where the husband takes the baby in his pushcart and they disappear. What follows is the heart pounding story of Jess working with (sometimes at odds) the local constables. Seeber describes the actions and thoughts of the distraught mother as she struggles to find her child and maintain her "good manners" at the same time. The husband turns up beaten with memory problems in the hospital and cannot aid in the search. Throw in members of a dysfunctional family and an attractive Detective Inspector named Silver and you can see these characters evolve. There is also the Norwegian au pair who behaves like a slut and with the baby missing has no duties to occupy her. Take my word. If you can find this book, you will thoroughly enjoy it. Seeber currently has another book in the works and I'll be searching for it next year. She's great!!
