Great for a Toddler

My mother got this book for our son when he was not quite one year-old. Now he's almost two and "Zoo" -- as he calls it -- is a pre-bedtime staple in our reading repertoire. He likes it for the sparkly flowers, elephants, alligators and umbrellas and I think it's a really cute story about a little lizard with a can-do attitude. It's just the right length for a 12-24 month attention span and the illustrations are superb. Along with Goodnight Moon and a couple of the Corduroy books, Lucas is a welcome bit of our bedtime ritual.

Children's Lit class reviewed this book

My Children's Literature class reviewed this book. We especially liked the illustrations for their tactile appeal. I think toddlers would LOVE to touch these pages! Several of my classmates have small children. I would purchase this book for a young child because of the illustrations, and for a preschooler through 1st grader because of the story. It's just something a little different from the "soft" illustrations you see in so many other books. Kids will like the "sparkle" in these illustrations!

Beautiful Book, sweet story

My mother in law purchased this book as a gift to our infant son. The book's illustrations are so beautiful and eye-catching! He loves to look at the pictures and touch the animals in the pictures. I'm sure he'll appreciate the story's message once he is old enough to understand.
