Fast-paced, terrific read!

I've been reading vampire romance for several years now. When I came across Love Without Blood in my local bookstore, I was surprised to discover it was romance, written by a man! Couldn't be very good, right? Wow, was I wrong! This is not a typical romance, nor is it like any other vampire stories I've read. This story kept me guessing until almost the very end, and Mr. Steel has a terrific way of leaving the reader hooked at the end of chapters that made me want to read the next. True, it was a little light on the "romance" end of the romance, but I'm hoping that will be fulfilled in the sequel. Mr. Steel left me wondering what's going to happen next. I can't wait to find out!

LOVED Love Without Blood

I was recently introduced to the vampire genre by a good friend. She suggested several books including this one by Raz Steel. I have to admit I didn't expect to enjoy the read as much as I did - the quirky/humorous characters, the suspense and of course, the romance, kept me totally engrossed. And I really love reading a "romance" by a male author - it gives you a different perspective. I'm hooked (or should I say "bitten") So.....when does book two come out?!!!

Much Like a Raven's Feather: Dark and Light!

LOVE WITHOUT BLOOD will delight Buffy fans. It's got that perfect mix of darkness and humor, suspense, eroticism and likable characters that range from dark and brooding to hilarious and quirky. Even the vampire lore with a Freudian twist is something I've never seen or read, and I'm quite the vampire connoisseur. After finishing the TWILIGHT series as an "adult addict," I'd really wanted to find something light and fun like TWILIGHT, and LOVE WITHOUT BLOOD delivered... except, being that this is a novel for adults, it was nice to enjoy some TRUE eroticism in a vampire novel [any adult addict of the TWILIGHT series will understand what I mean]. ;o) I really enjoyed this book, and am blown away that this is Raz Steel's first novel. This author shows great promise, and with the "open" ending, I hope that this means a second book is on the way!

Awesome vampire romance novel

This is an OUTSTANDING book to read. If you love vampire romance, then this is the book for you. I have been looking for another good vampire book since the twilight series, and this book is it! I can't wait for this author to write another great book. Please keep them coming!

Dark and interesting debut effort - For a vampire can there be love without blood?

Love Without Blood is the very interesting if oddly paced debut effort by Raz Steel - the only male finalist in Romantic Times 2006-2007 American Title Contemporary Romance Contest for previously unpublished authors. Love Without Blood starts out strong when ER Dr Lara West receives a phone call in her bedroom from a bleeding stranger who is calling from downstairs having broken into Lara's home seeking aid. There is something strange about the man named Robert in his odd eyes and in the way that Lara must concentrate to fight the compulsion to follow his orders. After Lara finishes treating Robert she is rendered unconscious and awakens alone, bound, and with her house ablaze. Lara only just manages to escape through quick thinking and sheer determination. From there the story slows down for awhile as we alternate back and forth between two threads. In the first we follow Lara, as she is placed in witness protection, is given a new identity, and is trained as an agent in a government run vampire unit- though she thinks everyone is pulling her leg whenever they attempt to impart knowledge pertaining to vampires. In the second we meet vampire Bobby, who works as a night nurse to give himself access to sleeping female psych patients who are his preferred monthly meal of choice, and watch him struggle not only with his inner beast who wants a conscious female to feed on, but also with his growing obsession with fellow nurse Meridian. Though there are subplots with the government using Lara to seek out clues that vampires are using hospitals as a feeding ground and also one with a blood thief whose crime causes heightened hospital security making feeding a problem for Bobby, most of this part of the story is the inner dialog and turmoil inside Lara and Bobby's heads. It takes awhile for the two threads to join and since I suspected how that would occur I found this part of the book somewhat slow. But even as I was impatient for the story lines to come together, I liked Steel's characters. Lara and Meridian are smart and intense. And Bobby is very sympathetic with the humanity he has managed to regain over the centuries and the loneliness that is the price for that humanity, and Steel did a good job of building Bobby's frustration as Meridian's stalking and the tightened security at the hospital threaten to break Bobby's leash on his inner beast when he is unable to feed, and also in developing his obsession for Meridian. When the threads finally merge the plot regains its momentum as things begin to heatup between Bobby and the object of his obsession and the action reaches a peak when the leads each cross paths with the blood thief. In the end Love Without Blood, was a different kind of read, definitely not a cookie cutter vamp romance. It should be mentioned that part of Bobby's powers are to read a woman's secret fantasies and Meridian's involve force and resistance, so if you are like me you won't find their initial `love connection' ver
