This was an interesting book. I became a fan of Ms. Owens' work with her previous book, As Long As There Is Love. I must admit that this book left me wanting to shake some self-confidence into Jordan. The book was very well-written, and the characters were developed. It takes a while before we get to see what the heroine's home life is like. It was only after reading several chapters that we see Jordan's home. All of her interaction with Michael was at the school. I liked Michael. He was strong, and definitely knew what he wanted- Jordan! But I found Michael to be a little annoying at times. He was always so darned agreeable to everything Jordan wanted. Overall, this is a good story, but I woud have liked Jordan to have been more self confident, and minus her major problems with insecurity. At one point, I wished I could have reached inside the pages of the book and shaken some self-confidence into her! And another thing...who says thirty eight is old???? All in all, the book is well written, and I believe you will enjoy it!
A slight twist on the classic May-December romance

Based on an unlikely premise, Love Changes Everything nonetheless develops into an attractive story. Jordan has been a teacher for years and during that time she has exerted positive influences on the lives of many of her students, but has also been battered in many ways by the challenges of teaching. Having reached the breaking point of frustration in her current position, Jordan seeks a new position at a new high school. As a former student who was inspired by Jordan to go into teaching, Michael has never forgotten the impact Jordan made on his life. He is thrilled to know that Jordan will be his new colleague. Upon seeing her again, he realizes that the crush he had on her as a maturing boy has grown into the full-blown attraction of a grown man. Having volunteered to be her mentor, Mike gets to spend a lot of time with Jordan and soon sets out in pursuit of a relationship with her. Their potential relationship is beset with many problems including Jordan's excessive reluctance to become involved with a younger man - especially a former student - and separate trials that arise from their interactions with students. Author Karen White-Owens injects several lines of intrigue and conflict that arise from interactions of each of the lead characters with coworkers and students. While these complimentary storylines add complexity to the story, in conjunction with the personal problems the main characters are dealing with, the story felt overextended at times. All in all a good story, the pace seemed to drag at times likely due to bouncing between a number of subplots and the sometimes exasperating reluctance of Jordan to deal maturely with the older woman-younger man dimension of her budding romance.

The old adage age is just a number has always come with a caveat: age is just a number unless you're an older woman. Most women will be able to identify with Jordan's ambivalence in starting a relationship with a younger man. The May-December romance between Jordan and Michael is very well written and readers get a chance to experience the old fashion art of a man pursuing a woman. Not only does this book give us a look at a heartwarming relationship, but it also guides the reader into the sometimes-harsh reality of today's educational system. Throughout all of the mayhem she deals with during a school day, Jordan has to make a decision that will affect her personal and professional life: does she follow her head or does she follow her heart? Her decision leads to the very essence of the title of the book: Love Changes Everything. This book is a very good read and is absolutely adorable!
