Book Overview

Barbara Newhall Follett was born in 1914. Her father was the highly regarded editor Wilson Follett. She developed a dramatic interest in using a typewriter as a young child, and established herself as a prodigy when she wrote "The House without Windows" at the age of 9, publishing it at the age of 12. Her second book was "The Voyage of the Norman D.", a memoir of her adventure on a schooner, published at the age of 14. Her parent's divorce and the Great Depression combined to derail her writing career, and her only publications after "Voyage..." were a few articles in a variety of periodicals. She continued to write, travel and live life as much as her circumstances would allow. In 1939, at the age of 25, she left her apartment with $30 after an argument with her husband, and was never seen again. "Lost Island" is one of her unpublished stories and demonstrates her continuing maturity as a storyteller, and her growth as a writer. Since this was an unpublished work, it has now entered the Public Domain, allowing us to discover Barbara Follett's talent anew.
