Shall We Call Him Jesus? or Lord?

The irreverence of unbelievers toward the holy name of our Lord Jesus Christ is understandable. Yet the almost equal irreverence of believers, true Christian people, is not understandable at all. It is sick and sad! This book by Sir Robert Anderson, THE HONOUR OF HIS NAME, has meant a great deal to me. I first read it almost 50 years ago. I have never been the same since I was helped to realize the honor that was due to Him every time I addressed Him or referred to Him when speaking to others. It was then, and continues to be, a thrill and a blessing to realize that the Lord Jesus was never addressed or referred to by His given name, Jesus, by His apostles or anyone else who believed on Him. He is my Lord. This title, the Lord (not Jesus), is His name, the name He possesses, to which every knee should bow and every tongue confess to the glory of God our Father. (See Phippians 2:9-11.) From this book I learned what I have not learned from any other source. The Bible fully confirms the Honour of His Name.

Excellent critique of modern theology.

Sir Robert Anderson was Chief of Criminal Investigations at Scotland Yard until 1914. Few people today realize he was also an accomplished lay-minister and Bible expositor, who preached on both sides of the Atlantic to crowds as large as those who gathered to hear D. L. Moody. In this volume he applied his thorough investigative methods to a Biblical study of Godhead theology. The results are an inspiring look at the Deity of Jesus Christ according to Scripture rather than to dogma developed from the second to fourth centuries. He presemts the subject from viewpoints usually overlooked by modern theologians. Highly recommended.
