"Billy knew that,whatever shortcomings Curtis Long might possess,the man was smart,fearless and inco

There are nearly 350 episodes,in this long-running series which started in October 1978. I have read a lot of them;some not very good,most of the good,and some of them are outstanding. In my opinion ,this is one of those which is outstanding. The reason these episodes vary a lot is that they are written by different writers ,but all under the name of Tabor Evans. At times,it seems that a writer ,who may not have even read a lot of the episodes,has Longarm,doing things that just don't mirror his character.These can be frustrating. Other episodes ,appear to be written by writers who genre is mystery writing,and I just don't care for convoluted mystery stories filled with clues,motives,and wrap-up discussions of who and why;rather than fast-action old west ,gunfighting and rough frontier justice with local history thrown in. This episode has it all. The long train ride from Denver to Elko,Nevada,is filled with lots of action and almost a story in itself.After finally arriving, we get all the action and characters one comes to expect in an Old West town,frought with corrupt officials,confrontations between townspeople,heavyhanded ranchers ,good guys and scoundrels ,Paiute Indians and Maidens.We even get to know about the workings of catching and taming wild mustangs. The saga has a storyline that keeps one glued to the action and hard to put down. Longarm intends to resolve all the issues,and even though there are plenty of people around him who intend to do him in; we ,as always,know he will prevail in the pursuit of justice;orderly if possible,but roughly if necessary. Longarm even makes a new friend along the way,hopefully sets him on a better life pursuit,and takes a well earned months vacation,to take him fishing. This time Chief Billy Vail is just going to have to wait till Longarm gets good and ready to come back to Denver.Little does Vail know how close he came to losing Longarm to a different way of life to a persistant damsel right in Denver.
