In this October 2004 episode,we find Longarm doing a bit of travelling,ending up outside Los Angeles.In this saga we get a fast-action adventure,filled with some real interesting ,albeit ,unusual characters. Some you would like to encounter,and some you would want to keep your distance. It has a great,well focused ,storyline that holds your interest and keeps you right beside our hero;till Longarm gets things resolved. There is lots of action on the Railroad but we got to wonder what the return trip back to Santa Fe would have been like.Bet that would be the makings for another yarn. Longarm has met up with some really weird characters in his cases.Some of them have been wacky religious sects and oddballs,but when he has to deal with the Devil and human sacrifices,even he wonders where this old world is headed. The cover gives a good depiction of two of the unusual characters you're gonna meet along the way.The cameo on the cover might be Marie,but it looks familiar and may be just a "typical one" dug out of the art archives. This is a well conceived,structured and written episode ,and well up to the standards we look for in this series. You gotta think Longarm must hawe been singing a few bars from one of his old favorites on the way home to Denver after everything has been cleaned up. "Further along ,we'll know all about it. Cheer up my brother, Live in the Sunshine, We'll understand it, All by and by."
