Inspiration for Anybody

If you want inspiration that will leave you laughing one minute and desperate to learn more the next, this is your book. Before reading this wonderfully witty text, I had absolutely no experience with Asperger's Syndrome. This book gives its Asperger's-ignorant reader a peak into a life that is not characterized by negativity, but by brilliance, humor, and a perspective on life that perhaps more of us should embrace ourselves. Karra Barber utilizes an incredibly personal voice, allowing the reader to share in her struggles and happiness. Barber uses such terms as "getting it", leaving me wondering if I would "get it" and therefore longing to learn more about Asperger's Syndrome. I would highly recommend this book to anybody who has little to no experience with Asperger's, for it gives a refreshing, unique, and needed perspective: that of finding extreme happiness because of a different way of seeing the world, not in spite of it.

Poignant, practical and informative

Ms. Barber has delivered a poignant, pragmatic and informative memoir of her personal journey raising a special needs child with Asperger's Syndrome. Through a single mother's eyes we are invited into the unique world of young Thomas and given perpectives tnat both educate and enlighten us about special needs children and Asperger's Syndrome in particular. With humor and sincerity Ms. Barber's anecdotes, victories, failures and challenges allow us a better understanding of the Asperger's child and perhaps the touch of Asperger's in all of us. A real gem. Scott Wada, MD

Living Your Best Life with Asperger's Syndrome

Karra has such insight. She shares a wealth of practical information. Her love and caring for her son really comes through. Her writing style is a delight to read. I have shared the book with many people. I hope she'll share more of her wisdom in a future book!

Book Review

This was a easy-to-read, funny journey through one mother and son's early life experiences with Asperger's. It was divided into categories, such as, Regional Center, Medical Insurance, School, which I find very useful. I often share passages from this book with others. It's a useful reference tool for me to help educate others about my own son who is on the Spectrum.

Excellent!

After reading this book, I felt empowered. Miss Barber makes you realize that your child is special and gives reassuring advice and examples from everyday experiences with her child. I don't know how many times I laughed out loud, while learning so much I needed to know. I would recommend this book to everyone who has a child with Aspergers as well as anyone who knows someone with Aspergers. The "get it" factor is brilliant and so helpful. The writing is straight to the point, and easy to read. It's not above my head or too technical. This is the perfect book for parents who need help but don't know where to start.
