In Living the Wheel, Annabelle Nelson helps us move beyond psychological denial so we can begin to heal the emotions of the unconscious mind, thus opening it to merge with the spirit self hidden there. Spiritual development is not about being "good." It is about suspending judgement of the inner and outer world. In the process, we often deny the very emotions that make us human. Nelson presents positive techniques for people who have gone beyond the first phases of spiritual work so they can deal constructively with the emotions that are often perceived as being "wrong" or "bad" for someone on this path. In this exciting book, Nelson enables us to find our way to emotional health, unite with our spirit, and chart the awakening of the inner self.
Valuable for exploring alternative ways of knowing.

Nelson offers a thorough and engaging understanding of important ancient ways of knowing that blends the practical "how-to" with enough theory to appreciate their wisdom. It gave me a chance to step outside our usual perspectives and try out other ways of seeing myself and the world. This is a rich resource for personal change or theoretical interpretation.

As a positivist I began this book with trepidation. It is, however, solidly researched and convincing. Nelson delves into the unconscious mind while reviewing the evidence of pscychoneuroimmunology, psychology and spiritualism. It is provocative and inspiring. I highly recommend this book.
Practical scholarship that fosters human healing

Great. Rather than the typical pop psych or dry as dirt theory here you will find a practical approach to human/ spiritual development grounded in readable scholarship.Blends humanistic and Jungian psychology with Native American and Eastern spirituality and proposes the use of imagery (picturing/thinking via internal sensation without external input) to aid human healing. Important notions include: the need to move beyond dualistic views of the human, the need for a balanced view of humans as body-mind-spirit-emotions (and the Western neglect of emotions and spirit), the import to spiritual growth of being fully human, and the power of images to move one beyond the defenses of the conscious mind into the unconscious. Exercizes offered to practice ideas presented.
