Living in the Unknown is about Esther who leaves the island of Saint Vincent to build a better life in England during the 1950's; after losing her husband to a horrific murder. Her aim was to further her career in nursing and leaving her daughter Margaret to be brought up by her grandparents for a short while.

After Margarets mother Esther had left her behind she was faced with many dramatic situations herself. Esther's aim was to return back home in five years. This was not the case. Esther begun to realise life in England was not as easy as she was led to believe, it took her around 8 years before she decided to send for her daughter Margaret.
