Take off for adventure...

Finally, a fast-paced chapter book with real and engaging characters that help make history come alive. This book grabs you from the beginning as the children need to travel in time to help steer the course of history. As a teacher and children's librarian, I was thrilled to discover this new book series. The historical facts are woven into the story so seamlessly, that children's interest will be sparked and they won't even realize that they may have learned something. This book is the ideal choice for Black History Month, Presidents, American History and it is a true adventure. My own reluctant reader couldn't put it down! Highly recommended! We're looking forward to the next book, PLEASE keep writing!

A Fun Way to Learn History

"What if..." is the question that begins each Monday in Mr. Caruthers' third-grade class. Abigail and her friends love Mondays because they get to imagine what would have happened if famous figures in history hadn't done the important things they did. This particular Monday, Mr. Caruthers asks his class what would have happened if Abraham Lincoln had quit and not issued the Emancipation Proclamation. After class, Abigail and three of her friends discover that this is not a hypothetical question - Mr. Caruthers has been to the past, trying to convince President Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, but he wouldn't listen. Mr. Caruthers shows the four students a device that looks like a large Game Boy along with a cartridge which will take them back in time to save history. They will only have two hours and they must succeed or the world as they know it will be changed forever. When the children journey to the past, they see the world of 1862 and how different it was from their time. They meet several famous figures from history before finally meeting President Lincoln. When they cannot convince him that the North will win the war, they end up taking him "back to the future" so that he can see how important it is that he issue the Emancipation Proclamation. Readers who like the "Magic Tree House" series will enjoy this series as well. It is apparent that the authors have spent time researching their subject and they spoon out the historical information in a painless and enjoyable fashion. The back of the book contains the text of The Emancipation Proclamation as well as more historical information which enhances the story. The next book in the series is called "Disney's Dream" with the question, "What if Walt Disney never..." For the question and the answer, you'll have to wait for Book 2 of this fun and educational series.

Fun... Fun... Fun... and Learn Something too!

This is a really fun book to read... especially if you like time travel stories. It takes you back on an adventure to the time of Lincoln. You discover that he had a very hard time in making decisions that would free the slaves. You see how the students meet the challenges to help President Lincoln. It is fun and the characters are easy to like. A great book and I am looking forward to the next in the series.

The BEST book EVER!

I am a third grader who loves to read. This was a great book because there is comedy, educational stuff, fiction, and previews of the next book. Stacia and Rhody have really thought up some great and entertaining stuff. There are things that I have never found in any other book, like time travel using a device like a game boy! This book would be the best for adventure readers, but I think everyone should read it because it's what all kids would like.

I love Blast to the Past!!!!!!!

This book is wonderful!! It is educational, fun, and exciting. I couldn't put it down.I felt like I was in the story meeting Abraham Linclon. Some books about history can be boring but this book takes history and makes it fun. I have met Stacia Deutsch and she is as great as the book. Teachers, parents, and kids will love reading this book!!!!!!
