SMOOTH AS SLIK

I recommend Mary Lynn Baxter because it relates to what young women are going through in life, for example, breaking up with their boyfriends, looking for a new life and a new love. MARY LYNN BAXTER The book is a very good book. It talks about Attorney Collier Smith, the main character, who picks up Brittany Banks, an eighteen year old girl, on a rainy night on a Tennessee mountain road. He saves her life that night and changes his own. Attorney Collier is on the fast track to a federal judgeship and is engaged to a socialite. But Brittany is a beauty from the wrong side of the track who reminds him of his past that he is struggling to forget.

Rich Guy and Poor Girl Love Story...Amazing.. :)

A normally well used plotline, the star-crossed lovers from different worlds. One rich and one poor. They fall in love and one wants to make it work while the other feels like it will never work. Sounds typical, but this one was unique in the way it was written.Ms. Baxter brought us into a world of greed and money and power and how some of those people use the powerless for their own pleasure and showed us that even though they may be powerless, they aren't weak.Brittany was found wandering on a slick and cold road in the Tennesee mountains one night as Collier drove by. Stopping to see if she was okay, he found a beaten and confused young woman in need of help.Collier is on his way to a remote cabin he has and the rain is so bad he can't turn around to take the woman to a hospital, not that it matters since she refuses to go. Instead he takes her to the cabin. Stranded for days he learns little things about her that make his blood run hot and cold.Who is she? Who beat her up so bad? And why? When the rain clears and he takes her home he finds himself more befuddled than ever. Attracted and sorry for her, Collier knows she isn't for him. She is from the wrong side of the tracks. But he finds that the trailer she lives in and the two jobs she works to stay alive and not to mention the brother she has in prison can't keep him away. He's going to ruin his chances for judgeship if he continues to try and see her, but he can't stop. She's everything he ever wanted in a woman and more and he can't have her. She on the other hand will not get involved with a lawyer who is about to become a judge that will probably use her and throw her away like trash. But Brittany can't stay away from him either.Love at first sight. Not only is there backgrounds too different, but there is a secret brewing...it will tear them apart forever. Can love survive such a scandal?Amazing, I loved this story. Full of heartfelt love and pain, it is emotional and fulfilling. Definately worth the read.Tracy Talley~@

A fast paced read...

Brittany Banks has worked hard the past three years. Working two jobs and going to school, all Brittany wants to do is prove that her brother, Tommy, wasn't drunk when he hit Jackson Williams and left him paralyzed, but drugged. Thinking Rupert Holt, the travel agency where she works most prestigous client is interested in helping her, she accepts his invitation to dinner. When she rebuffs his sexual advances, a menacing, evil side of him comes out. After hitting her, he shoves her out of the car. From there, she sets off walking, only to have a guardian angel swoop down and save her.Collier Smith has worked his whole life to prove to his stepfather, Mason Williams, that even if he doesn't have his blood running through his veins, he can make him proud. With his stepbrother, Jackson, out of the running, Collier has been nominated for a federal judgeship. Then he meets Brittany Banks, not knowing how she is or how she could effect his life. While the sexual tension is high between the two, they are intimate often which rids the tension between the two. It is basically a story about a trailer trash woman who isn't good enough for the man she loves. The man is torn between making his stepfather proud and the woman he has fallen in love with. While this isn't one of the better books I've read, I would recommend it on a rainy day.

compassionate star-crossed love story

Three years ago in Tennessee, Jackson was the family fair-haired boy on his way to a judgeship until the car accident left him paralyzed. The driver of the other vehicle Tommy Banks resides in jail for driving drunk, but swears he was slipped a Mickey. Now Jackson's stepbrother Collier Smith is the family member one step away from a federal bench appointment.Everything changes for Collier when he finds a dazed Brittany wandering the mountain road. Apparently, an enemy of his family accosted and beat her up before deserting her. Collier takes her to safety though she is Tommy's sister. As Collier falls in love with Brittany, he has decisions to make, as she is bad for his political career. Adding to his difficulty is pressure Tommy puts on him to help get him released from prison. Will Collier choose love or family loyalty and power for he cannot have both?Though a star-crossed love story between a person from the wrong side of the tracks and an elitist has been told a zillion times in novels and movies, Mary Lynn Baxter provides a compassionate spin on the theme through a strong cast. The story line is character driven especially by Collier, torn between his love for Brittany and his familial obligations enhanced by the bitterness of Jackson and the machinations of Tommy. Fans will enjoy this tale, but feel that though Mary Lynn Baxter resolved the prime theme in an exemplary manner, the talented author left too many sub-plots dangling as if a sequel is planned.Harriet Klausner
