The first book to explore how the simple preference for dogs, cats, or both can expose both profound and humorous aspects of the human personality, Like Cats and Dogs can help readers discover how their choice of a pet can give out important signals at home, in relationships, at work, and in the family.
I bumped into this book at a small US airport and picked it up because I had read most of the other relationship books there.I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised! My three hour flight to West Palm Beach passed by in no time and, as I was sitting opposite the airline hostesses (a real small airline, as you can see), I started a conversation about the relationship between pet preferences and partner preferences, mid flight, after only reaching mid book. I had dinner with one of them afterwards! This book is an undiscovered gem: pick it up!
Entertaining, informative and witty - a must-read!

This is one of the most entertaining, perceptive books about human relationships (and pet preferences) that I've ever read. Authors Patnaik and McKinnon turn pet preferences into high art, analyzing cat and dog "personalities" (and let's not forget "binines") with humor, insight, and anthopological depth and intensity. Highly recommended. I'd buy this before I bought any other book on relationships, period. Enormously helpful.
Relationships Going Nowhere? Then Read This Book!!

This book was one of the most informative books about the best kind of pets that we keep: human beings, specifically our partners. If you do own a cat or dog or even both, you will find this book to be a must have for your collection; but if you don't own a pet, you will still love the book. Maybe your lover owns a pet, and you will find this book will improve your relationship. Maybe you are interested in someone who has cats and/or dogs: give them this book, and they will not only love it, but love you! I don't own a cat or dog, but I found the book helpful in identifying my psychological type (I like dogs, so I am a dog person). And I couldn't believe how accurate the write up on me was. And it wasn't written in a "pet owner's" language -- it was written for anyone to understand, from Star Trek fans to nWo fans of Dennis "The Hot Rod" Rodman. It is delightfully Generation X (and maybe even Degeneration X) with its references. Nor does the book generalize: it has specific horoscope designations for each type of person, i.e. dog, cat, both. No matter who you are, you will find your type written up in this book. In short, this book is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be on human relationships.

An insightful, funny and altogether interesting book about cat lovers, dog lovers and those who go both ways (binines). This is required reading for anyone who wants to understand themselves or their pets.
