Adaptable techniques for speed reading the Bible

OK, take a deep breath, no pauses now. We are going to read the whole Bible in three passes: first one takes four (4) seconds per page; second one takes eight (8) seconds per page; third one is s-l-o-w, one (1) to two (2) minutes per page. Based on proven speed reading and study scanning methods, the Holman CSB* Light Speed Bible seeks to help people achieve reading all the way through the Bible and really gain information from that reading. The first chapter's title, "The Adventure of Whole Bible Reading," amplifies well the aim of this book. Following a discussion of why Christians aren't reading the Bible more and the benefits of this system, Proctor gives details and techniques (best read at normal speed) for implementing light speed reading. Relax and enjoy rapid, effectual, broad-stroke reading. All this has been honed and proved in Proctor's seminars on light speed reading of the Bible, using the Holman CSB Light Speed Bible. These first three quick passes will prepare you for a fourth zone--which Proctor unfortunately calls optional--titled Meditative Speed, an in depth study of one passage including reflection and memorization. Having scanned new textbooks and used speed reading when in need of it, I recognize what Proctor is seeking to achieve. If you have never read the Bible through, are preparing to teach, or are beginning in-depth study, The HCSB Light Speed Bible will be of interest. Keep in mind that the idea of this book is adaptable to your own speeds. Also, please remember that Meditative Speed should not be optional. Designed for reading and retaining quickly and easily

This Bible has several features to help the reader quickly understand the purpose and direction of a book or chapter and then examine the passages in detail. The name Light Speed Bible is because of this format and the Light Speed Reading course. At the beginning of the Bible the introductory matter details this reading technique that with practice will allow the reader to read through the entire Bible in just a few days. The Light Speed reading technique involves reading through a large section of the Bible three times at different speeds. The first is very fast to get a feel for the structure and basic direction of the book. The second pass is to get all the headings and subheadings so you know some of the details of the section including important concepts and points. To facilitate this the Light Speed Bible has numerous single sentence summaries, bold printing, and underlined items. These are done specifically to facilitate this process and part of the way in which this Bible is designed for high speed reading. The third pass is to get the details of passage and it is here that you read each word. Once you learn the technique it takes about 16 hours total to read the entire Bible. If you can dedicate an hour each evening you can read the entire Bible in just over two weeks. This Bible uses the Holman Christian Standard Bible translation, a common modern language translation. The HCSB Light Speed Bible is an excellent Bible that is designed from the ground up to encourage reading through the entire Bible and is highly recommended for anyone seeking to achieve this goal.

Encouraging and reader friendly Bible version!

The idea of being able to read the Bible in a faster and more effective manner while maximizing my knowledge appealed to me greatly. However, I wasn't sure what I'd find when I looked at The HCSB Light Speed Bible translation, edited by William Proctor. I was pleasantly surprised when able to use the Light Speed Bible reading program to achieve the goal. The beginning of this Light Speed Bible version contains instructions on how to read at a high speed with ease, maximize your understanding, and retain what you've read. This is done through a reading plan called speed zones - Light Speed, Landmark Speed, and Learning Speed (and an optional plan, Meditative Speed). Each speed zone is straightforward and clearly described. The speed zone concept is a different but good approach to reading the Bible. Once I got used to it, I found it very helpful, and best of all, discovered that it actually works. The format of the HCSB Light Speed Bible edition is easy to follow because of the lettering, font size, headings, sub headings, and specific underlined passages. Best of all, I like the fact that the program is not about reading the Bible quickly for speed's sake, but about reading it in an efficient and active manner so that I'm able to get the most out of what I've read. This Bible and Reading Strategy will Help Any Serious Bible Student!

When one first hears the title, "Light Speed Bible" one might wonder about the whole concept of reading through the scripture in "Light Speed". However, after purchasing the Bible and practicing the different zones...the results are awesome! I have grown up reading the Bible devotionally since I was a child, but I have never been taught a technique that would help me in reading through whole books, being better at cross referencing and helping me to see connections from one book to another. The technique has also increased my comprehension! I understand that the Bible is the "most owned and least read" book...this Bible will certainly help in changing those statistics! I am an educator by profession and I can see the incredible benefits of teaching young people this technique as well. Think of it! Students will be reading and learning the Bible while also learning a wonderful strategy that can be used in their educational studies through high school and college! I just wish I had known about this sooner! It was easy to give this one a five star rating!

Absolutely Wonderful! A Must Have!

I was so excited when I received this Bible to review, and I was not disappointed in what I found. Author William Proctor has developed a Bible reading plan that surpasses all others. In his plan you have four reading zones that amazingly enough actually help you to read the Bible quickly and retain and understand what you read. Wonderful! In the beginning of the Bible the plan is clearly laid out for you and is easy to understand and implement in your reading. I am not going to go into the particulars of his plan but I will tell you that it works and that is what is important. Now, I know what you are thinking; reading the Bible should not be a speed-read. Let me say this; I read my Bible everyday and study the Scriptures, yet I found this plan to enhance my Bible reading and my retention of what I was reading. That is a big plus for me. You can still study your Scriptures and meditate in the Word; but trust me, your reading comprehension will definitely increase, and you don't have to use this method every time you open your Bible. Just speaking solely on The Light Speed Bible itself is a joy. It is a wonderful Bible. The lettering is just large enough to be easily read and include subtopics for quick finding. In the back we find what is called," Holman CSB Bullet Notes," which is a listing of biblical words and terms. All in all "The Light Speed Bible," is just what you need to enhance your Bible reading and understanding; I highly recommend this work to all those who want more in their understanding of God's Word.
