Light for the Last Mile: Devotions of Peace, Hope, and Salvation

In March of 2024, I stepped into a sacred calling, not fully understanding the weight of the work ahead. I have since walked alongside families in their most vulnerable moments, held hands that grew cold, and whispered prayers as souls took their final breath. I have seen more deaths than I ever imagined-each one unique, yet all carrying the same profound truth: life is fleeting, and eternity is real.

I have grieved with those left behind-the spouses who don't know how to go on, the children who wish for one more conversation, the caregivers who have poured their hearts into serving and now feel the ache of loss. I have also grieved from the other side, carrying the unseen sorrow of witnessing so many departures, of offering comfort while holding my own emotions in check, of being a steady presence in rooms filled with both love and anguish.

But more than anything, this calling has been a reminder that we are all walking toward the same horizon. The question is not if we will reach it, but how we will be prepared when we do.
