Devotional

This is a fantastic commentary on Leviticus. It is very devotional in nature, very much like J C Ryle's commentaries on the gospels. Bonar walks you through Leviticus with an eye toward Christ the whole way. This has become one of my favorite books and I cannot go through it without seeing the glory of God and the greatness of Christ's sacrifice for me. Do yourself a favor and get this book. I suggest getting the Banner of Truth edition as it is sewn binding and built to last.

A precious book

I ordered this book for two reasons: first, the author is Andrew Bonar; second, Leviticus is a book that I find particularly difficult. When I began reading it I imagined I would soon lose interest. In fact, I had trouble putting it down! This is one of the very best commentaries I have ever read on any book of the Bible. With this author's help I have come to love the book of Leviticus... indeed, I see Christ everywhere. What a precious commentary.

Outstanding!

Bonar's work on Leviticus is outstanding! He show's shadows of Christ on every page, and never fails to leave you with something to ponder. His ability to open up this book of the law and apply it to christians is remarkable. I'm sure the more "scholarly" crowd would much rather take apart each word and look for tenses and clauses, while Bonar does do some of that, his priority is showing Christ. And he does so gloriously. This one is not to be missed and has a permanent place in my library. I cannot comend this title too much, it is a treasure!

Lyrical Explanation of an (Unfortunately) Obscure Book

Most Christians usually skip Leviticus when reading the Bible. They think it's too obscure, or that it belongs to an older audience (i.e. those under the OT Law). Bonar shows the beauty of this ancient text by showing how the shadows of the sacrificial system pointed to Christ and still help those under the New Covenant to see more clearly the beauty of what Jesus accomplished, both as our Substitutionary Sacrifice, and as our Great High Priest. Should be read by all serious Christinas.

Quick Review

Intermediate level of study that has been a "classic" for over 100 years. Conservative evangelical commentary by a famous Scotsman.
