I wanted to see what I was missing in fiction reading. I've never been a big fiction reader, at least 90% of what I've read is nonfiction for pleasure. Recognizing that romance novels are the most popular paperback fiction (49% of all paperback fiction is romance novels), I thought I'd start here, with Harlequin, even though probably 99% of its readers are women, and I'm a man. This book's story has a perfect pace and a fairly simple plot. Rachel, widowed at 23 by a 62 year old husband, Charles, is left in a quagmire. Charles had stipulated in his will that she must marry his nephew, Craig, or else lose the estate. She was already in love with the estate itself, and deeply still in love with Charles. She promised him she would. Craig shows up, and he's an arrogant asshole who shows no hesitation in agreeing to the will.
