This manual (LYTM), previously published as LeadYoung Certified Trainer's Manual, has been updated, and certification is no longer required to use LeadYoung training curricula. This 135-page, 8.5-by-11 resource reflects best practices for developing 6- to 23-year-olds, with an emphasis on ages 10 to 18. Since 2005, Dr. Alan E. Nelson, Ed.D., has studied the process of using project-based training to build team-leading skills in preteens and teens. Drawing on observations of thousands of students in eight countries, LYTM provides step-by-step instructions for using the LeadYoung Training curricula in more formal settings. Those who simply want to run their own programs will still find many of the principles and skills transferable. This manual includes the Koach Training Manual (KTM), which explains the KidLead model of providing cues based on Socratic coaching techniques.
