His first client is the very wealthy Madame Bovaroff who claims that someone has stolen a priceless self-portrait by Delacroix entitled L'Homme au gilet vert. Yet suddenly the painting magically reappears back on the same wall from which it disappeared. Not only that but all those who held the painting in their hands are murdered, one after the other.
