Whimsical book for adults and children

This "manga" -type picture book is beyond charming. I have read it (and own it) in both French and English versions. The drawings have a unique character about them which blends well with the text. The story which takes place largely in North Africa presents the reader with a realistic view of everyday life amongst the characters living in the city and countryside who follow their respective families, customs and religions...it's a lot about how they interact. It is a book to own and reread often. If you like it you will consider it a treasure. If it leaves you cold, pass it on to someone who has a soul.
