Informative and concise

After years of not understanding what the "experts" said regarding language learning disabilities, this book gave easy to understand explanations of the processes involved in receptive and expressive language. Terminology, tests and practical strategies are discussed for parents, students and therapists. It is obvious after reading this book, that the "experts" whether in a public school setting or private one fail in their identification and treatment of language processing disorders because they do not understand it and do not do the right tests. The author, Cindy Gaulin, points out that these children are often not diagnosed, though, parents see problems with direction following, communication and memory. Sometimes these kids are labeled as ADD or lazy, struggling with language to the point their self esteem declines. I would highly recommend this book to any parent wanting insight into language processing. I wish I had had this book years ago.

Good book

This is a great book for parents with children with special needs. It details the processes the body goes through while accumulating language and auditory processes. I recommend it highly.

very informative

i felt that this was a really good introduction to Language Processing Problems that children can have. I bought it to learn more about processing in order to help my autistic son but after reading it i saw that my neurotypical daughter also has a very slight issue processing. That is why she has a hard time with long division and when she is quickly telling us a story she sometimes has a hard time spitting it out...it is mild but the book offers basic suggestions to overcome the very simple problems some children have. It's easy reading and once again I feel its a very good intro to this issue.

Excellent brief book to give to a teacher or parent

I am an experienced reader on both language processing and expressive language disorders. I found this book to be a great concise manual to hand to a mainstream school teacher dealing with a child with processing issues. It's not too long, and it's a relatively clear and functional manual that doesn't become overly detailed or heavy. The only problem I can say is that it's a little pricey for the size, but there is something to be said for brevity - it gets straight to the point.

This one is a "must buy"!

A rich source of information for Speech Language Pathologists, Parents and Teachers!Very Readable and worth purchasing. It contains many great suggestions that parents and teachers can implement at home and in the classroom.
