I first watched Labyrinth as a kid, completely mesmerized by the magic, the puppets, the music, and that strange, beautiful world that felt bigger than anything I knew at the time. It was one of those films that stayed with me, even if I didn’t fully understand why back then.
Now I’m 47, with four kids of my own, and somehow this movie has come full circle in the best way. Watching it again through their eyes has been such a different kind of joy. They laugh at the Goblin King, get caught up in the adventure, and still react with the same wonder I remember feeling all those years ago.
What’s been most special is realizing how timeless it really is. The story still feels magical, the characters still feel alive, and the imagination behind it all hasn’t faded one bit. It’s rare to find a movie that bridges generations like that, but Labyrinth does it effortlessly.
For me, it’s not just nostalgia—it’s a shared experience now. A piece of my childhood that I get to pass down, watch them fall in love with, and relive together all over again.

"You have no power over me"
Teenage Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) lives in her fantasy world and resents having to take care of her younger brother Toby (Toby Froud son of Conceptual Designer Brian Froud.) She wishes that the Goblin King (David Bowie) who is enamored with her would take Toby away now. Be careful of what you wish for. Toby is whisked off to the Goblin King's castle beyond the goblin city and behind a great labyrinth. Now Sarah has just 13 hours to navigate the labyrinth and retrieve Toby if that is what she wants.
We get to travel with Sarah through all her trials and tribulations. We get to kibitz do not go this way don't go that way. And you guessed it Sarah does go this way and Sarah does go that way. In the meantime, she learns what friendship and fairness are all about and gains a new respect for her new and old friends.
This is Jennifer Connelly’s third film before quitting the industry to go to college. Of course, she is back now and a stronger actress than ever.
I've seen this presentation on TV and VHS. However, for some reason, I forgot that it was a musical fantasy even though I knew it had David Bowie. Now with the advent of Blu-Ray, I am revisiting all the old films and this one came up on the list. The visuals are spectacular. The voiceover commentary gives you new insights as to what they were trying to do in the movie. Occasionally, especially at first, it looks like the characters are lip-synching and the sound does not match exactly. Later this is either corrected or you don't notice it anymore. Great Scott what is this? Available is Labyrinth (1986) - Limited Edition Collector's Set 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray [4K UHD].
