Akshara, whose family is originally from Togo, was the new girl at the high school in town. It was a school year that Akshara was not likely to forget, as she made friends and met a boy, Cooper. Like Cooper and many of the students at the school Akshara was very involved in sports, so she gets along with her new classmates well. But issues arose with her newfound friendship with Cooper when their differences were highlighted by the adults in their lives.

Teachers: In French, the pass simple is the usual tense for narrating stories in the past, especially in literary texts, fairy tales, and historical accounts. However, for our purpose in this reader, we are focusing on teaching students the pass compos and imparfait, which are the tenses most commonly used in everyday speech and writing. The pass compos is used for completed actions, while the imparfait describes ongoing situations, habits, or background details. By using these two tenses instead of the pass simple, students can better understand how to express past events in practical and conversational contexts.
