Kylie the Koala Turns Things Around

By Darren Allan

Kylie the Koala has been waiting all week for a special trip to the zoo.

But when she and Mom arrive, the zoo is closed. Their backup plan-a movie Kylie has been excited to see-is sold out too. By the time they get home, Kylie feels like everything has gone wrong.

"Why does everything always happen to me?" she cries.

Mom helps Kylie see the day in a new way. They cannot always control what happens, but they can look for what they can choose next.

When one more disappointment appears-Kylie's favorite ice cream flavor is gone-she has a chance to practice what she has learned. Instead of letting the moment ruin everything, Kylie asks herself, "What can I choose?"

That small question changes the rest of her day.

Kylie the Koala Turns Things Around is a warm, encouraging picture book about resilience, perspective, emotional regulation, and learning to focus on what we can control.

Perfect for young readers who struggle when plans change or things do not go their way, Kylie's story offers a simple reminder children can use again and again:

You can't always choose what happens.

But you can choose what you do next.
