Koa's first stop: Byron Bay, Australia - the most easterly point on the whole continent.
Koa's morning starts like any other - wax the board, greet the sun, hit the water. Then he hears something out past the waves: a seagull named Gully, hopelessly tangled in an old fishing net.
Freeing him is the easy part. Keeping up with him is another story.
Between Gully's disasters and a beach that needs cleaning, Koa meets Dune - a goanna who knows this coastline better than anyone. Dune leads him up to the headland, points out Cape Byron (first place in Australia the sun touches every morning), and shows him two little islands out past the surf: Julian Rocks, where the turtles live. On the way there, they even spot a whale.
It's a big first day, for a koala who's only just started traveling. And somewhere out there, past the lighthouse, the next coastline is already waiting.
