King: The Beginning of a Movement

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott were two ordinary young blacks in their mid-twenties. They were a part of the younger generation, and they were tired of the status quo. Receiving an assignment from God, they were obedient and helped changed the course of American civil rights.

Our story spans across time, from the historic Rosa Parks arrest on December 1, 1955, to the prolific "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech on April 1968.

In 1951, Martin and Coretta met while attending Boston University. He received his PhD in systematic theology, and she earned her degree in music while having a strong background in social civil justice. They married June 18, 1953. These two young people of God felt racism and social inequality had to change, and with the collaboration and momentum of the black community, they created the beginning of a movement while only using nonviolent protests as their weapon.
