First Time User

As for the use of the website, it's my first time using it and I've been impressed with the variety of "archived" books that you have, especially from my favorite author Grace Livingston Hill. As for the story, I'm reading her books chronologically and am impressed with her early writing style. I was told that it changed, but about the only thing that changed is that in her later years, the books didn't flow as easily as they did in the beginning. Still love the book and am grateful for your site so I can order books that supposedly are "lost" or "archived."

One of Grace's earlier works!

This story is from 1897. I would campare it to Ms Hills other early work The Unwilling Guest in that they are both fairly detailed books, at time a little tedious but both have lots of characters, deep spiritual nuggets and lots of twists that make them worthwhile reads at least once. Ruth returns home to live with her brothers after being sent away in childhood (similiar to the Honor Girl but that is much less detailed and easier reading). They are not thrilled to have her at first but she sees their need of her. Their home is a desolate place, their pantry even worse and they are unbelievers. There are lots of secondary characters that really come to the foreground (such as the development of her brothers and their romantic interests) really more than Ruth's character (who cannot help but swoon over her brother David?).But if you read it solely for the romance it is somewhat disappointing!

Not just a romance

I liked this story better than many of GLH's books - not a lot of extraordinarily evil people, and the young woman's finding of her relationships with her brothers is very interesting.
