Rather than focus on the historical struggles of African Americans, this book takes the opposite perspective and highlights many categories in which we have overcome since emancipation. Knowing my family history instilled within me--from early childhood--the awareness that Black Americans are a very capable people. Paternal and maternal ancestors were very successful pioneers in Oklahoma acquiring several large farms by late life. In addition, an aunt's family operated a very prosperous dairy farm, a cousin founded and operated an ambulance company, and my maternal grandfather pioneered large acreage and taught school in New Mexico. His mother, sisters, and wife were all school teachers. It is from this standpoint that I've been motivated to share some facts largely unknown in America.
