Jacob convinces a theatre professor, Alan, and his students to build a play that will change all of their lives. Weaving back and forth in time, the play grapples with two communities, the Fishkin family during World War Two and their struggle for survival, and Jacob and Alan and their new friendship which is being forged as 9/11 explodes around them.
