Journeys with God

The Old and New Testaments describe the journeys experienced by many individuals. The children of Israel experienced many challenges on their way to the Promised Land. God was with them on their journey. Exodus: 40: 36-38. The men on the road to Emmaus met the risen Christ. They said to each other, "Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the scriptures?" Luke 24:32. This scripture reference has a special meaning for me since I was born and lived in Emmaus, Pennsylvania for the first 18 years of life. It was during these years when I attended Bethel Bible Fellowship Church in Emmaus, Pennsylvania that I met the risen Christ during a Saturday morning Bible club meeting. Everyday each of us begins a journey. Sometimes our experiences keep us in our homes, backyards, communities, workplaces or take us to faraway places. Our experiences provide as many challenges and are as varied as the individuals we meet. Whatever the circumstances, we are not alone, God is with us.There are many times when we, and those around us, experience detours in life: chronic or acute illness, accidents, disappointments, unfulfilled dreams and/or death. At that moment, these detours are very real, sometimes painful or, at least, an inconvenience. But later they often reveal wonderful and unexpected results. It is during some of life's detours that we have the opportunity to slow down, reflect on goals, count our blessings and rely on God's wisdom for the unknown future. What we may consider a detour is part of God's plan for each of us.
