Very well written with a socio-cultural and anthropological perspective

I'm taking this class as part of a psychiatry tech/nurse program. I disagree with the reviews that are complaining about the text having "racist"assertions about ethic groups. I myself am Hispanic and it is true, as the book points out that direct eye contact can be interpreted as something bad. Need I remind the reader that most of the American continent has Spanish as its set language and so many other Caribbean island-Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, ect.. Not every person in all this geographical area will have those superstitions, but many do. People need to be well traveled in order to refute such claims instead of accusing someone of being a "racist" instead of acknowledging that they are actually being culturally sensitive. Perhaps its the other way around, and the people who are refuting that superstitions like the "evil eye" are not prevalent in certain ethnic groups are the ones who are grossly misinformed and need to gain some cultural anthropological awareness. Over all, a not heavy read text with valuable biological information and added socio-cultural information with a cultural anthropology touch. This book seems fit for health professionals who will serve people of different cultures and geographical backgrounds.

Racist & Prejudiced

This book is filled with inaccurate, RACIST, and PREJUDICIAL notions. It claims that "african americans & hispanics view eye contact as a sign of aggression or 'the evil eye'". Be advised of these authors and this book. It is disgusting and does not teach NEARLY as much as it insunuates wrongful stereotypes.

2015 Edition is racist

2015 edition is racist; not sure about the others. Says to avoid direct eye contact with black people. That Latinx people consider direct eye contact to be "giving the evil eye." There's mistaken information confusing all Arab-Americans for Muslims; making a handful of erroneous claims. And more. Overall, whoever wrote this book was a racist. Whoever edited this book was a racist. Whoever allowed this book to pass into publication, allowing these passages to remain, was racist. Don't allow this book to circulate and don't let it's erroneous information to taint more nurses.
