Ignore the writing style, but get with the jogging!

OK this book is not going to win any literary awards. It's long-winded unecessarily obtuse in its writing style (like a theological paper in some cases), but the meat of the book - the information it conveys is great! Haydn Gilmore has done something truly excellent here... he has published something that gets people into running. So you finish the book thinking "I've got to run - I can run!!" rather than "what a great book!". He's diverted the attention from his writing to the object in mind, namely to show people that they really CAN run. Just to let you know it worked for me: I read this book and then went out and jogged to the end of my road, 100 yards away. It almost killed me. I had tunnel vision, nearly fainted and couldn't move for an hour afterwards. But I perservered in the way that Gilmore writes about. I kept at it. Soon I could run to the end of my road without stopping. Next I ran round the block. Then I ventured into the nearby park. This is history now. Yesterday I ran 10km, with relative ease! God led me to this book. I picked it up for 30 NZ cents in a church booksale. He didn't want me to be fat, lazy and unhealthy. Through reading the book, then through the regular persistent running it advocates, I now know the truth. I've lost plenty of weight, but the most important thing for me is that I'm healthy - I hardly ever get colds or sore throats anymore (I used to get them regularly before). God wants us to be healthy. He has given us amazing bodies. Even after 30 years or more of misuse (no use!) we can get right physically, and then get right with God. There are no tricks, no gimmicks, no shortcuts. Except one. This is the one that Haydn Gilmore advocates: just get out there and do it - regularly. Pray that you can keep it up, just a little every day. It doesn't matter how slow, and how much you hate it at first - pray through those bad times - you just have to keep it up until you enjoy it. And enjoy it you will... you will come to love it. In fact if you just keep up that little bit of running every day, eventually you won't want to stop!
